1. Summary

• The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Dimensions, quantities, materials and prices are never transmitted to us.
• We do not run advertising trackers and we do not sell or share personal data.
• We receive personal data only when you submit the contact form.
• We do not set advertising or analytics cookies.

2. What the calculator does with your inputs

Every calculation - geometry, unit conversion, volume, mass and cost - is performed by JavaScript running on your own device. The values you type are held in the page's memory for as long as the tab is open and are discarded when you close or reload it. Nothing is written to a server, and nothing is written to persistent storage on your device.

This is a deliberate design choice: cutting lists and material prices are commercially sensitive, and the safest way to protect them is never to receive them.

3. Information we do collect

Contact form submissions

When you use the contact form we receive the name, email address and message you provide. We use them solely to respond to your enquiry and to keep a record of the correspondence.

Server and hosting logs

Our hosting provider records standard technical information when a page is requested, including IP address, user agent, requested URL, referrer and timestamp. These logs exist for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults. We do not use them to build a profile of individual visitors.

4. Legal basis for processing

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we process contact form data on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries about our service, and hosting log data on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and available. Where consent is the appropriate basis, we ask for it and you may withdraw it at any time.

5. Cookies and local storage

This site does not set advertising or analytics cookies, and does not use cookie-based tracking across other websites. Any browser storage used is strictly functional and stays on your device.

6. Third-party processors

• Form processor. Contact form submissions are relayed through a third-party form service, which processes the fields you submit in order to deliver them to us by email.
• Font host. Typefaces are served by a third-party font host. Your browser requests those files directly, which discloses your IP address and user agent to that provider as part of an ordinary HTTP request.
• Hosting provider. The site is served from a commercial hosting platform, which maintains the technical logs described above.

7. Retention

Contact correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards for reference, then deleted. Hosting logs are retained according to the hosting provider's standard retention schedule, typically a matter of weeks.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@steelplateweightcalculator.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

9. Children

This is a professional engineering tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and material changes will be summarised here.
