Terms of Use

These terms set out what the Steel Plate Weight Calculator is, what it is not, and the basis on which you may use it. The short version: it is a free calculation aid, and it is not a substitute for a mill certificate.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By accessing or using Steel Plate Weight Calculator (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

2. What the service is

The Service is a free, browser-based calculation aid that estimates the theoretical mass of metal blanks from the dimensions, geometry and material density you supply. It also publishes reference tables, charts and articles relating to metal weight estimation.

All calculation happens locally in your browser. We do not receive, store or process the dimensions, quantities or prices you enter into the calculator.

3. Accuracy and no warranty

The Service returns theoretical mass: the product of nominal geometry and a published nominal density. Real delivered material differs from this figure for reasons that are entirely normal in metal supply, including:

  • rolling tolerance on thickness, which standards such as ASTM A6/A6M and EN 10029 permit;
  • mill scale, coatings and surface treatment;
  • cutting kerf, edge preparation and machining allowances;
  • batch-to-batch variation in alloy composition and therefore density.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. You must independently verify any figure before relying on it for pricing, contractual weights, structural design, lifting calculations, transport loading or any other purpose where an error could cause loss or harm.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service in any way that breaches applicable law or regulation;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its hosting infrastructure or related systems;
  • interfere with the Service's operation, including through automated requests that place unreasonable load on it;
  • use the Service to build a directly competing product by systematic extraction of its content or data.

Ordinary professional use - including calculating weights for quotations and purchase orders - is expressly permitted and is what the Service exists for.

5. Intellectual property

The Service's design, source code, text, charts and diagrams are owned by Steel Plate Weight Calculator and protected by applicable intellectual property law. You may share links to any page freely, and you may quote short extracts with attribution and a link back to the source page.

Physical constants and published standard values - such as material densities and standard plate dimensions - are facts and are not claimed as our property.

6. Third-party services

The contact form is delivered by a third-party form processor, and web fonts are served by a third-party font host. Your use of those features is also subject to those providers' own terms. Links to external sites are provided for convenience; we do not control and are not responsible for their content.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Steel Plate Weight Calculator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profit, revenue, contract, goodwill or data, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Service - including any reliance on a calculated figure.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

8. Changes to the service and these terms

We may add, change or withdraw features at any time, including density values corrected against their source standards. We may also revise these terms; the "last updated" date at the top of this page records the current version. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Steel Plate Weight Calculator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer protection law grants you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.

10. Contact
